The Coloring Book trend is growing bigger than ever before. Part of the reason is because it’s easy to start coloring and the other reason is that it feels good when you color. But did you know that coloring is also good for you? In this post we cover 5 Reasons Why Coloring Is Good For You. We take elements of science and show you why it helps you feel better.
1. Practice Mindfulness
When coloring, you get immersed into the act of coloring. This allows you to be present and thinking about how your hands are moving, how the colors are interacting with each other and how the color fits in the illustration. This act of being mindful and being present happens when coloring and allows the person coloring to be in a relaxed and meditate state while doing so.
2. It has a calming effect on your body
When you’re coloring, you are sitting down and relaxed with your favorite drink at your favorite place. Already it’s creating the right environment for you to relax. Once you start coloring, it helps you relax and de-stress after a long day as it can be done with just a few pencils. The other part of why coloring is good for you, is because it allows you to be who you are without any judgement, making you more relaxed.
3. Stimulates right and left brain
During the day we often use one side more than the other. Perhaps during work we have to think more logically, or when we’re out buying groceries we have to think economically. When it comes to coloring, we’re able to use both sides of the brain. We use our logical side to think about pages, materials etc and our creative side to make the illustrations come alive with color.
4. Reminds us of simpler times
Let’s face it, when you’re out during the day, there’s a lot going on. From work to personal drama, there’s always something going on or something going wrong. One priority after another. When coloring, it reminds us of our childhood. When times were simpler. Being in school or at home and just coloring away with not a worry. Just another reason why coloring is good for you.
5. Makes you happy
People who experience more flow states during the day are proven to be more happier. When you’re coloring, you are in a flow state, being immersed into the act of coloring. By doing this regularly, it makes a difference in your happiness level.
