There is an endless debate about which should I use Colored Pencils or Markers. To simply it, we’ve given a handful of reasons for Why Colored Pencils are Better than Markers.
Now this is not to say that I don’t like using Markers, I enjoy it. Sometimes you just feel like using Colored Pencils and here it is:
Why Colored Pencils are Better than Markers:
This is the most obvious one. With some markers costing up to $5 per color, makes it very difficult to build up a good color set. So let’s say you want to get a set of 36 colors, with the Copic Sketch Markers, it can cost upwards of $300, wheres as a Prismacolor Premier pencils will be only $30.
2.Easy to Use
With Colored Pencils, you can simply pick it up and start coloring. With Markers, there’s one more step, you have to remove the cap. Now this might seem like a big deal, but if you’re using several colors a day and interchanging between the colors, it gets difficult to keep track of the cap of the marker.
When using some markers, you have to make sure that you’re working in well ventilated areas. This is because some markers has fumes coming from it. Whereas with Colored pencils, you can simply pick it up and store anywhere without worrying about the smell.
Ask anyone who has just finished using markers if f they’ve used Markers if they just Colored. Better yet, you don’t event need to, just follow at their hands. When using markers, you get the ink on your hands. With Colored Pencils, the pigment doesn’t stain your hands.
If you have children around, you want to make sure everything is safe for them. When it comes to coloring, you want to color with them and not worry about them using the wrong set of markers or accidentally leaving the cap on all night to dry out the markers. With Colored Pencils, you can enjoy coloring with them.
Maybe you’ve picked up your favorite Coloring Book, or really want to color a page that you’ve just printed off. With Colored Pencils you can color without having to worry about if it’s going to bleed through the other side. With markers, you need to make sure that the paper quality is right for 2-sided pages or you have to pick which illustration to color.
Ask almost any stores stores or even department stores and they’ll be sure to have Colored Pencils. Markers…not so much.
Who doesn’t want more control when it comes to coloring. One of the main reason why Colored Pencils are Better than Markers is because of the level of control you get with Colored Pencils. You can apply a very light level of pressure to a rich color hue. You can also use an eraser to remove parts of Colored Pencils that you’d like.
With Colored Pencils you can create different textures from stippling, to smooth textures to burnishing. These textures create different results that is difficult to create with Markers since the marker ink largely allows for one smooth texture.
9.More ways to blend
Blending is one of the most common techniques when it comes to coloring. With Colored Pencils, you can use different mediums or even blend evenly using the Colored Pencils. With Markers, you can blend using different techniques, but you can’t blend using different levels of pressure that you do with Colored Pencils. If you want to mix colors, you can get a better variety of color spectrum with Colored Pencils vs Markers.
The other reason why Colored Pencils are Better than Markers is that it’s simply convenient. For storage, you can stored colored pencils almost anywhere and at any angle. With some Markers, you need to make sure you’re placing it at the right location and it has to sit horizontally.
When you’re travelling, it’s easier to pack and color with coloring pencils than markers. Image you’re on a flight, you pull down the tray to color. With markers, you need to worry about the little caps falling off and rolling to the seat behind you. With Coloring Pencils, you can simply color and put everything back into the box or tin.
