A lot of people who love Markers commented on our previous video and post of Why Markers Are Better Than Colored Pencils. So to bring that to light, we wanted to create a post for it.
Now this is not to say that I don’t like using Colored Pencils, I enjoy it. Sometimes you just feel like using Markers have the upper hand and here it is:
Why Markers are Better than Colored Pencils:
1.Doesn’t roll away
When you’re using a handful of colors at the same time, Colored Pencils will start to roll away. With some markers and their Barrel or Caps, it prevents rolling away.
With Markers, you don’t have to worry about pencils shavings and lead breaking that you would with Colored Pencils. Because it is a solid object, all the pieces hold together without you worrying about the tip of the coloring pencil breaking and constantly sharpening it.
Markers allow you to get Richer Hues, more so than with Colored Pencils. That’s not to say you can’t get the same hues, it just doesn’t have the convenience of getting the richer colors.
4.Easier for Hands
The other reason Why Markers Are Better Than Colored Pencils is hand cramps. Ask anyone who has just finished using coloring with Markers compared to Colored Pencils. When it’s the same level of details, using markers is much easier for the hands. If you want to apply a deep and rich color, you either have to apply several layers or use hard pressure with Colored Pencils.
Markers have different tips, making it easy for you to color several areas differently. Copic Markers, such as the image above have fine nibs to Brush nibs, allowing you to cover details and wide areas more easily.
When using Markers, you can get an even finish more easily than with Colored Pencils. Simply applying a stroke of color with the Medium Broad or Wide Marker will get that result. With Colored Pencils you will get an uneven surface , but that’s only if you’re concerned about touching your marker.
When colors run out it is never fun, that’s why with many Markers, you can refill the ink individually. With some Colored Pencils, you have to buy an entire set to replace the one-off color. Another point for Why Markers Are Better Than Colored Pencils.
Some Pigment Markers create such rich and vibrant colors that when used on art work, it can almost last a lifetime. Because of this permanent ink, it allows your work to remain looking great after several years.
9.Good for Details
You need to color that tiny detail that goes throughout your artwork with the same level of intensity but don’t want to mess up. What do you reach for? The fine nib of the marker is the perfect tool to help you color.
Ahh yes blending, the best part about coloring. With Markers, you can create a smoother blending that with Colored Pencils. That’s not to say you can’t do the same with Colored Pencils, it’s just that you need more experience to do so. Some people also use a Blending Marker when blending Colored Pencils, that goes to show how great marker blending is.
